Assistant Golf Coach, First Tee – Prairies
First Tee – Prairies is a youth development program offered by Golf Canada that introduces the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. Through after school and in school programs, we help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect, and perseverance through the game of golf.
The Assistant Golf Coach will serve in a volunteer capacity, working with the lead coach at a program location (golf course) to assist with the delivery of First Tee Programming. They will work to ensure that locations, participants, and participant parents/guardians have all the tools they need to grow and flourish.
An ideal volunteer is a team player, they show initiative, having the ability to seize opportunities to create further partnerships and maintain strong relationships on behalf of First Tee – Prairies. They are a role model who readily asserts the First Tee’s Nine Core Values in all their interactions: Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Judgment, Courtesy, Perseverance, and Sportsmanship.
Description of Duties:
- Assist as needed in the delivery of First Tee at the Program Location (golf facility)
- Assist with the set up and clean up of program equipment
- Advocate and promote the benefits of First Tee to participants and parents.
- Empower kids and teens to engage in volunteer and fundraising activities.
- Provide overall guidance and mentorship to participants.
Requirements:
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- Coaching Association of Canada Safe Sport Training
- Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders Training
- Online First Tee Assistant Coach Training
- Previous golf experience and knowledge is considered an asset, but not required
Time Commitments:
- Program sessions are held in evenings throughout the golf season (May-September)
- A typical shift would be two 1-hour sessions delivered in succession to different age groups.
- There will be opportunity to attend and assist with special events such as school field trips and Try Golf Days.
