After spending the last 40 years building a legacy that will continue to be carried far into Sask Sport’s future, Dean Kleisinger has announced his retirement on March 31, 2026. Over the four decades Kleisinger has been a part of the organization, he has assisted countless sport organizations in raising funds in the National Sport Trust Fund and Sport Legacy Fund, which has led to many valuable projects being supported throughout the province.
Kleisinger first joined Sask Sport in 1984 when he took on a summer term position as Sales and Retail Development Coordinator and returned to that position the following year as well.
In the fall of 1985 he was hired into a permanent role as the South Regional Lottery Coordinator and began what would be a long and successful career. During his time in that position, he played a role in the development of Saskatchewan’s unique lottery system.
After twenty-three years as coordinator, Kleisinger switched to take on a different area of fundraising as Fund Development Manager, where he worked alongside sport, culture and recreation groups in the province. This role assisted various organizations in raising additional funds for programming outside of what was provided through the Sask Lotteries Trust Fund.
Account balances have continued to grow in the legacy fund under Kleisingers’ guidance, as well as future estate donations that will continue to support amateur sport for years to come. Through his efforts, millions of dollars have been set aside to sustain operations, provide scholarships and bring sport to future generations of participants.
In addition to his core job duties, Kleisinger established the KidSport Golf Tournament, which has grown to become a highly valued event that is held yearly in Regina. The proceeds raised are used to help kids across Saskatchewan to participate in sports.
Kleisinger’s passion to ensure that sport is accessible to everyone has led to numerous barriers being broken and a bright future of sport in the province.
“Sask Sport has benefited from Dean’s contributions over the past 40 years and it is safe to say that he has a left permanent mark,” said Sask Sport CEO, Kevin Gilory. “His time with the organization has become a direct part of Sask Sport history and we are grateful to be left with such a legacy.”
Sask Sport would like to congratulate Dean Kleisinger on his outstanding career and the 40 years he dedicated to changing sport in Saskatchewan.
